Percussion Lab

Percussion Lab

This is one of my favorite types of posts. An old friend named Praveen Sharma did a radio show in college called Precussion Lab.  We met because he booked me to be on it, and I booked him to play my weekly here in New York City. Then Percussion Lab became a 24/7 streaming internet radio station. There were live peformances, regular shows, and lots of streaming music. A few years ago, he moved to the city, and has recently redesigned the site (with Sougwen Chung) to feature more mixes their “collective” likes. Basically they’re extending their excellent taste into selecting mixes for you. The site is beautiful, easy to use and full of great content. Go spend hours on PercussionLab.com.

Helping spread good music is so easy because you love it, but it’s also so important. This is what the web is for. I look forward to what Praveen comes up with next.

We love blentwell.com

More than boring ‘ol site updates and news on the DubFiler blog, I want to promote sites, artists and tunes that we love. There’re so many people out there doing amazing things on the web to promote good music. I hope to contribute. Subscribe to the blog or check back regularly for posts on great sites, upcoming artists, free tunes, discounts for other sites and who knows what else.

When I think DJ web sites, the first site that usually comes to mind is Blentwell.com (@mrblentwell), the peoples dj mixset link collective. DJ’s post links to their mixes online, add a description and a few genres, and a lot of people find out about it. It’s a site that I heard about maybe as early as 2000, around when it was started, and have been taking advantage of it since, both to promote my mixes and to find links to other great mixes.

More recently, they’ve been doing a Blentcast podcast which offers an amazing mix of music (appropriately) from a wild variety of DJ’s. Well worth checking out.

Blentwell is free, it’s got a great variety of genres, and I find it great for finding new sounds. It’s easy for any of us to get stuck in our own little routines. When was the last time you listened to some Breakcore or Soulful House? Find something new on Blentwell.com!
